Vale Training

October 2011
Brazil

In 2010, ANGEL was appointed by VALE, multinational mining company, for the execution of Site Assessment and Remediation projects along the Estrada de Ferro Vitória Minas. The five year contract is now in full operation and ANGEL has already installed, and is now operating, stage two multiphase extraction systems, stage one integrated multiphase extraction system and hydraulic barrier, and stage two emergency pumping systems. Angel has conducted assessments on a dozen sites, and provided recommendations for either closure and/or additional remediation for each site.

Due to the magnitude of the contract and impacts in the operation of many departments at VALE, Angel was asked to conduct training on the management of the contaminated areas, to the following stakeholders: managers, technicians, environmental managers and also technicians from IBAMA (responsible for the environmental licensing of the railroad). The training was performed over three days in September, and addressed subjects from phase I's up to the most advanced remediation techniques used, both in Brazil and abroad. The training also included a field visit to two of the multiphase extraction systems installed by ANGEL, using the most modern and efficient technology available.

Feedback from the presentation suggests it was well received and provided a more comprehensive understanding of contaminated areas management and the roles of the key stakeholders, VALE, ANGEL and IBAMA.
