Inogen and Deloitte Host Workshop on New
Accounting Standards and Environmental Risk

25 May 2005
Tokyo, Japan

Inogen members, Environmental Management for Sustainability, Inc. (EMSI) and Delta Environmental Consultants teamed with Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu to deliver a half-day workshop entitled "International Accounting Standards & Environmental Risk in Multinational Corporations". The workshop, held at the Tohmatsu Environmental Research Institute in Tokyo, included representatives from government, the banking community, the media and major multinational corporations headquartered in Japan.

The workshop focused on International Accounting Standards and information disclosure associated with global environmental risk. These risks, emerging from legal obligations, market participation opportunities, financing, corporate value and shares, have become major management concerns for Japanese multinational corporations, particularly those challenged by the additional disclosure burdens required by these harmonizing accounting standards.

The workshop commenced with a presentation on International Accounting Standards trends and environmental risk by Mr. Tsuneyoshi Seki, Certified Accountant, Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu. Mr. Seki compared the enforcement of International Accounting Standards in Europe, the integration of standards between the United States and Europe and the progress of standardization in developed countries to the current situation in Japan. He addressed the issues that Japan faces, as well as its outlook, with particular emphasis on environmental due diligence as a corporate risk in terms of international accounting standards.

The session continued with "Environmental Management Strategies and Information Disclosure in Multinational Corporations" presented by Masahito Aizawa, P.E., President and CEO of EMSI. Mr. Aizawa addressed the current status of environmental management strategies in Japan, Europe and United States as well as the role of environmental information disclosure and corporate risk management for multinational corporations.

The workshop concluded with a discussion of the Inogen Due Diligence Global Practice Standard™ delivered by Mr. Paul Durkee, Senior Consultant with Delta. Mr. Durkee provided an overview of the Inogen Standard, which was developed by the Inogen members from Japan, United States, UK and Germany. In addition, Durkee delivered case studies on the application of the standard including a demonstration of Inogen's innovative web-based due diligence toolkit, IntelligentEHS®.
