What does it really mean to create a ‘healthy building'? How can our urban environment be designed to support healthier lifestyles? And what are the cost implications of integrating wellbeing into design? Buildings that promote personal health and wellbeing are becoming an increasing priority across the built environment, for designers, developers, operators and tenants alike. But given the complicated interplay of factors that create occupant well being, the subject is still an unfamiliar, specialist field.
Delta-Simons Managing Director, Alex Ferguson, and Technical Director, Roger Griffiths recently qualified as a WELL Accredited Professional. The WELL AP is the new, leading credential signifying advanced knowledge of health and wellbeing in the built environment and specialisation in the WELL Building Standard™.
The WELL Building Standard is a performance-based system for measuring, certifying and monitoring features of the built environment that impact human health and well-being through air, water, nourishment, light, fitness, comfort and mind.
"The demonstrated dedication to pursue the WELL AP credential proves the growing importance of developing buildings with people's health and wellness at the centre of design," said Paul Scialla, founder of IWBI. "WELL Accredited Professionals will be at the forefront of this healthy building movement."
WELL Accredited Professionals have demonstrated proficiency in the field of design, health, and wellness in the built environment through the WELL AP exam. The exam is based on the expertise of leading industry practitioners, researchers and physicians, and was developed using GBCI's rigorous test development best practices. It is designed to test a candidate's knowledge and proficiency in building wellness and the principles, practices and applications of the WELL Building Standard. The WELL Building Standard is optimised for commercial and institutional buildings and can be applied to three project typologies:
- New and existing building
- New and existing interiors
- Core and shell compliance
Delta-Simons is currently working with Chetwoods Architects and KTA to support Baytree Logistics Properties in delivering a major new industrial sector project in the UK, which will not only achieve BREEAM Excellent and EPC "A" ratings, but will also be registered to pursue WELL Building Standard certification.
