International Acknowledgment for Environmental Centre IFPA on the Green Construction Achievements in Sochi, Russia for Olympic Facility

An important achievement of the Russian Railways and Environmental Centre IFPA was certification under BREEAM standards of the Olympic Park railway station in Sochi. This was the first railway station building in Russia that was certified under the respected international assessment system.

BREEAM is the world's foremost environmental assessment method and rating system for buildings, with 250,000 buildings with certified BREEAM assessment ratings and over a million registered for assessment since it was first launched in 1990.  It provides for standards of sustainable design and construction, as well as provides the possibility to compare various buildings in terms of the level of the environmental impact.

"The railway station is an example of a truly green construction. Multiple factors were taken into account. Not only use of solar batteries or parking facilities for bicycles or provisions for resource conservation, but also environmental issue consideration in arrangement of the construction site and waste management."

Viсtoria Korneeva,
Deputy Director of the Scientific and Production Unit for Project Coordination at Environmental Centre IFPA
